Abstract

Much scholarship exists on women in agriculture in developing countries, especially China, India, and countries in Latin America. There has been much less research on the topic in developed economies, presumably because in these economies agriculture is male-dominated and the industry employs a small percentage of all workers. However, changes regarding women in this industry are of interest, as evidenced by recent scholarly and popular articles about the increase of women in agriculture in the United States. This project explores recent changes in the gender makeup of farmers and ranchers in Kansas. Along with a description of such changes, it also includes findings from interviews with female farmers and ranchers in the state.
